Because, the prices of stock and mutual funds are still experiencing to negative movement and it’s around 50% at the end of the year 2008. Today, their prices are still fluctuating in the same range (April 10, 2009). Almost all the stock exchanges in the world have been experiencing negative correction, so that the world economy moves in slow motion. Therefore, all countries in the world try to protect their markets and give stimulus to the business and bank in order to economic wheel of their country can move normally again. Author experienced losses of investment in stocks and mutual funds around 50%. I began to invest money in stocks and mutual funds in April 2008. At that time, price of stocks and mutual funds prices had positive trend, but at the end of the year 2008, the price decreased. At that time, I was thinking to withdraw the funds, but it did not be done because I was already loss too much money. Author advices, you should invest your money in others form of investment, one of them is gold, because now gold price has increased significantly due to the crisis.
If now you want to invest your money in stock or mutual funds, then you should delay to do it, because today global economic crisis has happen all over the world. Why author reminds you about this?

Determine if you are investing or trading. If you are investing you will find some very good companies at low prices with good dividends. While waiting for the markets to settle down you will collect dividends. 5 years or more is generally considered an investor. Really 2-5 years was the number before.
@rb77, Yes you're right. I'm investor and i want to put my money in stock for long time (10 years)
If you are a long term investor then pump in money in stocks when Dow comes around 7000. This should be achieved in the last quarter of 2009.
